It's amazing how much this chapter speaks to what I'm doing right now. I just watched the movie Luther. One of the most powerful stories of all time. The priests, the church, the whole world had spiraled off into idolatry and spiritual prostitution. Luther stood out alone against it all. Why? The truth. He gained knowledge of the truth about God's Word and of the love of Jesus Christ and the truth set him free.
So do are we as completely intolerant of any deviation from the truth in God's Word? How rigidly to we stand up for love and grace and mercy and the gospel of Jesus Christ? Over any programs or models or traditions or dearly held half-truths or even things you once thought were the truth.
My people are destroyed by a lack of knowledge.
Brannon and I talked to Kenny all through the movie so he would understand it. But the important part isn't his famous name or the whole denomination of his adherents. He wouldn't have even liked that I imagine. The crux of the matter is to so clearly know the truth yourself that you have a passion to make sure others have the knowledge too. The knowledge of Christ. The knowledge of a God that is love. If neglect God's Word and don't know the truth of it for ourselves, we are turning our backs not only on men of God like Luther, but on the gift of salvation itself.
Sorry for being so heady, but hey, it's Hosea. What else do you expect?
