Well I thought I should close out this book but man, this chapter is really one of those that I struggle figuring out how to apply it to myself or learn from it. It's one of those prophecies that seems so specific to the people of that time and their situation.
One verse I could write about though is the one about moving boundary stones. This is mentioned in other places in the Bible and it's always used like this--as if it's absolutely the height of all dishonesty. These were stones set up in ancient times to mark the corners of a clan or tribe's land. And once they were placed, you were forbidden to move them for obvious reasons. You'd basically be claiming someone's land as your own and stealing it.
I wonder in what ways I move the boundary stones. I know right from wrong. You do too. We know where the lines are. But there are a lot of times we like to scootch the boundaries over a bit to excuse something that we consider not so bad. I think from this we can see how God feels about this. It's not OK with Him. His laws are eternal. Not the little detailed ones in Leviticus about not wearing cotton/poly blends or shaving your beard. But the immutable commandments that Jesus summed up as love God and love others.
I guess there was a little something from Hosea to think about. God's cool like that.
