Romans 15

As fabulous and grand as Paul's calling was, I love it that he was still clear on what it was not. He was called to be an evangelist to the Gentiles. And because he was clear on why God put him on this planet, he was able to accept gracefully some things that might otherwise be frustrating for him. I was talking to a friend today who also works at my church. We thought about how easy it is to assume that our role at our church equals our calling and purpose. For me, I think it's easy to see the correlation, but for her, she needed to get clarity on what it really was because it was obvious that her current role wasn't it. Now that doesn't mean she should quit and move on, that just means that she is not confined or defined by her job. Maybe there is a whole big purpose and plan that she will eave to go do, but maybe it's something here for her to do while she continues to labor at our church.

I just think it's wonderful to serve a God who has such big and yet such detailed plans for us. I love it that if we truly find our hope in Christ and our provision from our Father and our guidance and comfort from the Holy Spirit then we should lack no good thing. All those centuries ago when those prophecies in this chapter were written, He knew me, a lowly Gentile, and thought fondly of me and smiled and continued right on with His grand mission to redeem the world. And He wrote a part for me to play in His story.
