Psalm 103

I love the psalms. No matter how I'm feeling, I can find something to relate to there. I can cry out for joy or despair. But today, God continues to speak to me through even the most unlikely vessels. People I would have never dreamed would even be thinking about me are praying for me. Verses that keep bubbling up from everywhere. And just that still small quiet knowing that I recognize as His Spirit anchoring me from deep within. That compass in my chest pointing me due north.

Evie prays a prayer at dinner sometimes that she and many other kids sing. "God our Father once again, we will count our blessings. Amen." So this time, instead of horking down our food and forgetting about it, we did just that. I asked the kids to count our blessings.

Food, 1. Our house, 2. Toys, beds, clothes, school, health, 7. We went on up until they got silly at about 15. But as Brannon pointed out, most of those things are stuff. Is our stuff really our greatest blessing? "No," Preston remembered. "Jesus died on the cross so we wouldn't have to sin anymore."

This psalm is a terrific list of some ways God has blessed us. Salvation, 1. Grace, 2. Lovingkindness, compassion, forgiveness, mercy, renewal, 7. Count your blessings today. And I think you'll end up the same place this psalm does:

Let all that I am praise the Lord.
